Abstract

This study aims at analyzing figurative language and imagery in the lyrics of One Direction’s. This study used qualitative method in analyzing the data. Six selected One Direction’s song lyrics were used as the data sources. Namely : "Story of My Life", "Strong", "Right Now", "Through the Dark", "Ready to Run", "History". In this study, the writer applies the descriptive qualitative method. The theory used is the theory of figurative language Kennedy (2005) and the theory of imagery DiYanni (2002). The result of the study showed that figurative language and imagery which are found in One Direction selected song lyrics are representation of the author is feeling and expressions which are delivered indirectly. Keywords : Song Lyrics, Figurative Language, and Imagery.
