Abstract
The poor legal awareness among college students may result from the lack of socialization, the limited access, and the unfavorable culture among them. It is therefore necessary that they be exposed to legal horizon so that they get familiar with their immediate issues, with necessary measures in case of disputes, as well as with the needs for legal awareness on intellectual property rights, particularly the ones concerning copyrights due to the fact that these are closely related to teaching-learning process. This research takes place at Yarsi School of Law. The objectives of this research are to identify the level of the students’ understanding of copyright issues and to know their level of legal awareness on copyright ownership issues. The type chosen for this research is normative-empirical, with descriptive analysis method to describe and analyze the level of the students’ understanding and awareness of copyright issues, particularly those at Yarsi School of Law. The data are collected from (1) direct sampling through questionnaires and (2) interviews. The research findings suggest that the level of understanding and awareness on copyright issues among students of Yarsi School of Law in general is still relatively poor and continuous efforts to promote legal awareness among students of Yarsi School of Law are therefore to be made.
