Abstract

The title of this study is “Identity Crisis: The Process of Finding Self-Discovery in Two Selected Picture Books” which aims to reveal the issue of identity crisis and how the protagonist faces it as a process of finding self-discovery. The object of this study is a picture book entitled The Crocodile Who Didn't Like Water (2013) by Gemma Merino and The Dragon Who Didn't Like Fire (2021) by Gemma Merino. As support, this study uses qualitative descriptive research methods and Erik Erikson's psychosocial concept of identity crisis as a psychological approach. In this study, the writer focuses on two protagonist characters in each story who are the only ones different from the others, so this creates confusion about who they are. This study analysis shows that two important things can be concluded. First, several conditions surrounding the protagonist show an identity crisis. Second, there are several ways they deal with an identity crisis which is also a process of discovering their identity.
