Abstract

This study is entitled "Gender Stereotyping in Megan Abbott's The Turnout." This study discusses the depiction of gender stereotyping and how the characters deal with gender stereotyping that occurs in the novel The Turnout (2021). Stereotyping gender in The Turnout creates a terrible perspective on society that is considered deviant. Therefore, this study uses qualitative descriptive methods for describing, analyzing, and interpreting narrative elements to build an understanding of gender stereotyping characteristics and characters' deals. To complete the study, the data was analyzed using the Gender Performativity theory from Judith Butler (1999) as a basic concept and framework. The results of this study show feminity and masculinity of gender stereotyping. Moreover, the character's deals include efforts the characters actions amidst society's gender stereotyping and following the path of gender stereotyping.
