Abstract

The aims of this study are to analyze the featured of linguistic codes and the functions of linguistic cityscape and the responses from respondents regarding language in public area in Mall Lippo Cikarang. This study is entitled “Linguistic Codes at Mall Lippo Cikarang Scape (Form & Function)”. This study was conducted in Mall Lippo Cikarang that used Landry and Bourhis (1997) theory and used qualitative methods. The code found 106 codes. From the totaled code found, there are 26 valid data for further analysis are in accordance with the formulation of the problem in Linguistic Codes at Mall Lippo Cikarang Scape (Form & Function). The results of this study indicate that the most monolingual code is English with a total of 39 codes. Furthermore, there are the most bilingual codes are Indonesian-English with a total of 14 codes. However, in multilingual codes the language found is diverse in the codes and their number is equally equal only one. In addition, informative codes are more commonly found than symbolic codes. The informative codes found contained a total of 11 codes and 1 warning board. However, the persuasive codes was found in Mall Lippo Cikarang. Meanwhile, the symbolic codes found are 2 codes. This code serves as information or clues. Meanwhile, the function of the 91 codes is as a store name or for commercial purposes.
