Abstract

Speech acts are often used by speakers to convey messages and objectives so that listeners can interpret the intent conveyed by the speaker. Illocutionary speech acts are often used in everyday life as a form of communication between people. This study was aimed to find out the types and functions of illocutionary speech acts in interviews. The object of this study was an interview by Emma Watson with Anthony Breznican on the Emma W. Thailand YouTube Channel. This study used the theory of John Searle (1979). This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study indicated that Emma Watson's utterances contain sixty utterances containing all types of illocutionary acts, namely: representative, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative. In this study, the writer found representative type by 26 data or (43,3%), the directive type by 10 data or (16,7%), the expressive type by 18 data or (30%), the commissive type by 4 data or (6,7%), and in declarative type by 2 data or (3,3%).
