Abstract

The title of this study is “Traumatic Events In The Novel The Good Samaritan By John Marrs”. This study aims to identify how the childhood and adulthood traumatic events portrayed in the novel and the defense mechanisms. The theory used in this study is Freud’s psychoanalysis of trauma (1915) and Freud’s defense mechanism (1924). This thesis uses descriptive-qualitative method. The result of this study shows the traumatic experiences depicted in the storyline caused by the childhood and adulthood occurrence. Furthermore, the defense mechanism uncovered are denial, repression and rationalization. Keyword: traumatic experience, trauma, defense mechanism, denial, repression, rationalization
