Abstract

This thesis is entitled “Bullying Against Women in Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why novel”. This study analyzed the depiction of bullying, its impact and how women deal with bullying in “Jay Asher's novel Thirteen Reasons Why”. The object of this study was a novel and the data were analyzed by the theory of Dan Olweus (1993) entitled “Bullying at School”. The writer used some sources from books and journals in collected the data. Then the writer used qualitative method in analyze the data. The results of this study was that the main character named Hannah experiences various forms of bullying such as verbal bullying and physical bullying and it was impacting bad aspects of Hanna's life. Then the writer also described the forms of resistance carried out by the character Hannah to defend herself. In the case of Hannah, she had problems with her environment which caused her to have feelings of anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. These feelings and thoughts arose in Hannah's life because in her life more forms of evil were directed at her and no one believed her.
