Abstract

This study analyze impoliteness strategy in a comment. The analysis focuses on the types and functions of impoliteness strategies. The data of this research was taken from Lizzo’s Instagram comment. This study is to know how people use impoliteness strategies in a comment. For this reason, in order to identify the use of impoliteness strategies, the writer uses Jonathan Culpeper's theory of impoliteness strategies and qualitative approach to analysis the data. The result of this study found four types by five types impoliteness strategies, they are Bald on Record Impoliteness, Positive Impoliteness, Negative Impoliteness and Sarcasm or mock politeness meanwhile, there is no data found for withhold politeness. The dominated for the types impoliteness strategies is negative Impoliteness. There is also result which found for functions of impoliteness strategies, they are Affective Impoliteness, Coercive Impoliteness and Entertaining Impoliteness. The dominant for the functions impoliteness strategies is Entertaining Impoliteness. Keywords: comment, hater, impoliteness strategies, linguistic.
