Abstract
The study analyzed the reflection of gender inequality and it’s impact on the female characters in Alice Munro’s Dimensions and Too Much Happiness short stories. The object of this study was short stories and the data were analyzed through words and quotations that used theory by Butler (1999). The qualitative method was used in this study in order to analyze the data and to reveal the impacts of the gender inequalities in the short stories. The result of this study was that society always put women in an inferior position to men and it was impacting aspects of woman’s life. Furthermore, the writer also found that the female characters were impacted by the gender inequality to the extend they became dependable to man, blamed for the problem arise in the family, and were being jealous of by the man in the society. The female characters dealt with these gender inequalities by realizing that they can be independent, they can be success and smarter than men.
