Abstract
This study aims to identify the oppression in the novel "Peace" and how the main character deals with the oppression using Feagin's (2013) theory. This study's data source is the text from the novel "Peace" by Richard Bausch. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. After analyzing the study, the writer concludes that three main types of oppression were found: racial, social, and political. Racial oppression is reflected through unfair treatment based on race or ethnicity. Social oppression is manifested through stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination that affect social interactions and the recognition of individuals as equal members. Meanwhile, political oppression occurs when individuals or groups are restricted in their political rights, such as the right to speak, assemble, or engage in the political process. In the context of the novel "Peace," social oppression is the most common type. It is reflected through the relationships between individuals affected by stereotypes, prejudice, and discriminatory treatment. The main character facing such oppression shows fortitude and perseverance in dealing with the oppression by maintaining his integrity and finding ways to understand. This main character provides an example of overcoming oppression with courage and resilience and can maintain their dignity and freedom under challenging situations.
