Abstract

The goals of this study are to discover and analyze the concept of beauty myth and its impact on women’s lives, represented in Nikita Gill’s poems from her poetry collection book Wild Embers: Poems of Rebellion, Fire, and Beauty (2017). This thesis uses the beauty myth theory by Naomi Wolf (2002) as a grand theory. A qualitative method is used in this study, in which the analysis is presented in the form of texts by presenting the quotations of the poems that contain the concept of beauty myth. The result of this study is that four concepts of beauty myth can be found in the selected poems: culture, sex, work, and violence. In which it is used to judge and construct women’s beauty. In addition, this study also reveals that the beauty myth leads to women stereotyping and domination which devalue women’s position in society.
