Abstract

This study entitled “The Illocutionary Acts on Spiderman: No Way Home Movie”. This study was aimed to analyze the types of illocutionary acts, its implied meaning, and the functions of illocutionary acts. The objects of this study were taken from Spiderman No Way Home Movie script. This study used qualitative research method as the analysis presented in the form of essay. The writer used the theory of Yule (1996) to analyze the types of illocutionary acts, its implied meaning and the theory of Leech (1983) to analyze the functions of illocutionary acts. The analysis resulted 47 conversational illocutionary acts in the utterance of all the characters. There were four types of illocutionary acts; those were 19 directives illocutionary act, 13 commissive illocutionary act, 9 expressive illocutionary act, and 6 assertive illocutionary act. Based on its function, there were 19 illocutionary acts included to competitive, 19 illocutionary acts included to convivial, 6 illocutionary acts included to collaborative, and 3 utterances included to conflictive. The result showed that directives illocutionary acts was the most dominant illocutionary acts since the speaker especially Peter Parker uses directive illocutionary acts to get what he expects through the actions of opposing characters. This is because he is an influential figure in society and must be a good role model. The movie has already reached its goals of communication due to the other characters doing the expected action. Keywords: Illocutionary Acts, Movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Speech Act.
