Abstract

This study analyzes the borrowing words in Kompas newspaper. Then, the study aims to identify the types of borrowing words in Kompas newspaper. Moreover, this study applies a qualitative descriptive method because the data collected in the form of describing the analysis. The data source of the study were taken from English borrowing words in Kompas newspaper. In order to support the study, the writer uses the borrowing words theory from Haugen (1950), namely types of borrowing words such as: loan word, loan blend, and loan shift to analyze the selected of borrowing words. The results of the study showed that the writer found of 244 selected borrowing words from selected category such as: Global, Education, Trend, Food, and Lifestyle. The authors conducted research on borrowing words with data retrieval from Kompas Newspaper. From the data collected, the data of borrowing word has collected amounting to 243 borrowing Word data, classified into 47 of loan word, 195 of loan blend, and 1 of loan shift. Furthermore, the selected borrowing words in each category explains the changes of borrowing words form used in Kompas newspaper.
