Abstract
This study aims to analyze social class along with class conflict and class struggle as the issues that follow it in Marie Lu’s 2019 novel. The object of this study is a novel by Marie Lu titled Rebel (2019). In this study, the writer applies the qualitative method in order to analyze the descriptive text of the novel’s narration. The writer uses Marxist literary criticism as the fundamental theory and approach for this study. The theory emphasizes that the character’s economic condition affects their behaviour, and it also presents the theory of social class, class conflict, and class struggle. The analysis shows that there is a distinct depiction of social class in the novel, classified by the type of social system used in the story. Rebel (2019) also shows the issues that follow social class; these are class conflict and class struggle. Class conflict shows the depiction of conflict experienced by the proletariat class. In the class struggle, the proletariat riots and fights for their rights to decrease the amount of exploitation experienced by them. Keywords: Marxism, social class, class conflict, class struggle, novel
