Abstract
This study entitled “Women‟s Struggle as Working Mother in Chandler Baker‟s The Husbands” analyze women‟s struggle as working mother who takes on many responsibilities, such as a wife and mother at home and as a lawyer at the office. The objectives of this study are to describe the patriarchal system experienced by working mother and women‟s struggle as working mother to prove their existence as women in The Husbands (2021) by Chandler Baker. Therefore, this study used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the narrative elements in the novel and present them in essay form. Meanwhile, to analyze the problems in the novel The Husbands, this study used the existentialist feminism theory of Simone de Beauvoir (1949) in the book The Second Sex. From the results of data analysis, it was found that The Husbands by Chandler Baker has depicted the patriarchal system experienced by working mother, including mothering activities and domestic activities that are entirely the mother‟s responsibility. On the other hand, women‟s struggle as working mother include proving that women can work, become intellectual, and reject the stereotype of a mother.
