Abstract

The research entitled “A Semiotic Analysis On Pandemic Mural” aims to analyze the semiotics of pandemic murals. It analyzes representations, objects, and interpretants in murals during the Covid-19 pandemic and analyzes visual and textual meanings in pandemic murals. Qualitative descriptive is used in data collection and analysis. This study starts with data in the field, then uses existing theory as supporting data, and then the analysis is carried out to produce a theory from the data. In this case, the writer uses Peirce's (1986) triadic theory of meaning as a reference in describing an object. The object used in this research is a mural. The presence of the mural at that time was not only an art medium to be enjoyed but had a much bigger meaning where it was as if the mural was telling a story about a major event or event when Covid hit the world. The writers found that each mural has three triadic meanings introduced by Peirce's (1986) Theory. In terms of the meanings of the visual and textual signs in the pandemic murals, this visual analysis aims to identify and comprehend the symbolic meaning and messages present in visual works, many of which reflect societal contexts such as social, cultural, and ideological conditions. On the other hand, textual analysis seeks to aid in identifying and comprehending the language and structure utilized in the text. This covers the choice of words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, style, and other linguistic components contributing to the text's meaning. Keywords: Mural, visual, textual, triadic.
