Abstract

The title of the study is “E.L James‟ The Mister: Women Oppression in Patriarchal System”. The aim of the study is to analyze the issue of women oppression in patriarchal system as represented by the main character, Alessia Demachi and how the main character resist oppression in patriarchal system. She moved to resist in response to some of the oppression she experienced. She ultimately escapes that oppression with the help of her lover, who comes from another country. A qualitative method is used in conducting this study and the oppression theory by Iris Marion Young (1988) is applied in the analyzing women oppression in patriarchal system. The findings revealed that the main character in The Mister experienced some oppressions as the concept of oppression by Young. Thus, there was some events that depict oppressions based on the ideology of patriarchy: exploitation, powerlessness, and violence. Because these ideologies were impaired the main character, she resisted this condition. The way of her resistance by leaving her hometown and starting a new chapter in her life.
