Abstract

The study entitled beauty myth in the novel Starfish (2021) by Lisa Fipps aimed to identify the beauty myth and analyzed the way the character deal with beauty myth. The theory of beauty myths (1991) by Naomi Wolf was used in collecting data as the theory fit perfectly with the issue. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study showed that the existence of beauty myths is in accordance with aspects of hunger, culture, and violence in novels. This study also showed how the character respond to and deal with girl fat rule made by the society experienced in the surrounding environment especially in her own home and family.
