Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of LGBT signs in two children’s movies. The objects of this study are movies entitled Strange World and Lightyear (2022), produced by Disney Animation. This study applies the qualitative research method, as the analyze is presented in the form of text and pictures. To guide this study, the writer uses the perspective of Peirce (1931) on trichotomies, including icons, indexes, and symbols. This study also uses the theory characteristics of minority group on media by Clark (1969) and flag emblems classification by Baker (1978). The result shows lgbt signs in Disney animated children’s movies. The act and attribute differently based on what is considered appropriate for trichotomies and characteristics of minority group on media. The categories of icon, index, symbol, and characteristics of minority group in that movie show the lgbt flag symbol on the clothing of lgbt characters. Icon explain the similarity of objects to one another; index indicate that something happens because of cause and effect; and symbols contain a meaning related to a sign. Lgbt is depicted in the female characters who act as Lightyear’s best friends, while the boy characters are depicted as individuals who are attracted to their male friends.
