Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reflection of the identity crisis and the protagonist's way of dealing with it. The object of the study is taken from a novel entitled Shine (2020) by Jessica Jung. The method used in this study is qualitative method. The writer uses Erikson's (1968) identity crisis theory to guide this study. In this study, the writer focuses on the main character, who is confused and has difficulty finding her identity because her differences make she feel unaccepted by others. The results of the study show that the main character experiences discrimination and unfair treatment from other people, which makes her experience an identity crisis. Furthermore, the analysis of this study shows that two critical parts can be concluded in this research. First, there are several conditions that the protagonist faces when experiencing an identity crisis. Second, main characters' ways of dealing with an identity crisis are accepting their true identity to determine their identity and feeling accepted by their family and society.
