Abstract
The title of this thesis is Self-actualization in Cormac McCarthy’s The Road Novel (2006) discussed the self-actualization of character in The Road Novel. The story revolved around a father and son surviving in the post-apocalyptic world. Self-actualization refers to the state or condition to survive from that country. The aims of this study to analyze the father's self-actualization, which clearly illustrates his efforts to actualize himself and how he pursues love in self-actualization. This study uses qualitative approach as it is presented in textual interpretation using a narrative type research design because the discussion mainly explores the life experiences of a character in the novel. To answer the problems in the study, the writer utilized Abraham Maslow's pyramid hierarchy of needs theory in his book Motivation and Personality (1987). The results of this study demonstrated that the father's self-actualization is deeply intertwined with his love for his son and his commitment to ensuring their survival in the harsh, post-apocalyptic world. It examines how he navigated the hierarchical needs, striving for self-actualization while grappling with the challenges presented in the narrative.
