Abstract

The objectives of the study were to identify the type of language style used in the "Killing Eve" TV series and to find out the social factors in the "Killing Eve" TV series. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach developed by Joseph A. Maxwell (2013). Data were collected from the conversations between the two main female characters, Eve and Villanelle, in the Killing Eve TV series. The study utilized the theory of five styles of language style by Martin Joos (1967) and Holmes' social factors theory (2013) in the form of essay analysis. A total of 205 data were found, indicating that casual styles were the most prevalent with 127 data, followed by consultative styles with 34 data, intimate styles with 33 data, formal styles with 6 data, and frozen styles with 5 data, based on the conversation between the two main female characters, Eve and Villanelle, in this television series. Eve and Villanelle used more informal language, adapting to the situation with whoever they were talking to, allowing them to apply all types of language styles under the influence of different social factors. In certain situations that required Eve and Villanelle to act unlike themselves, they had to pretend to obtain the information.
