Abstract
This study is entitled “The Potrayal Racial Discrimination Towards African Americans in Don Lemon’s This is The Fire”. This study aims to analyze the issue of racial discrimination represented by the main character in the novel This is The Fire (2021) by Don Lemon. This novel tells about a Don is a journalist who often experiences discrimination as a black and also the experiences discrimination of black people that he reports. This experience was carried out by white people in America, and the end, he realized that to reduce acts of discrimination by spreading positive things. This study used the qualitative method by Cresswell (2012) which presented analysis in dialogue and texts. The theory by Fred L Pincus (1996) about the types of discrimination is used to analyze the data. The result of this study is acts of racial discrimination against black people are experienced by anyone, anywhere, and in any field. All types discrimination that exist such as individual, institutional, and structural. Institutional discrimination type is the majority that causes deaths, namely carried out by white police against black people. The protagonist deals with racial discrimination by voicing the truth about cases of discrimination on social media and then justice is implemented. The protagoist also creates black people foundation to strengthen the rejection of acts of discrimination and create peace.
