Abstract

This study aims to describe the loneliness of the main character Kya that looks after and provides for herself because her family is abandoning her from a young age. The object of this study is a novel entitled Where The Crawdads Sing (2018) by Delia Owens. This study applies qualitative research that collects data from different sources to identify and analyze to support and strengthen the object of this study. As a guide for this study is used the theory perspective of Erich Fromm (1957), entitled The Art of Loving. The causes of this loneliness are Kya being abandoned by her family members and being ostracized from her society because of her low social status. Based on data analysis found that she develops self-reliant, knowledge, and relationship to overcome her loneliness. The result of this study shows that through her efforts, she endures through struggles in her tough life, which leads increase in the quality of her life.
