Abstract

This study entitled Jargon Terms Used by Barista in Menang Banyak Coffee Shop. This study aimed to analyze the forms of Jargon used by Baristas in Menang Banyak Coffee Shop and when Baristas used Jargon in Menang Banyak Coffee Shop. Jargon is a specialized vocabulary used by those inside established social groups, often defined by professional status. The method used in this study was qualitative research method while the data were collected through interview. In addition, the theory used in this study was the theory of Halligan (2004) and Yule (2006). As a result, the writer found that there are four types of jargon, namely acronyms, abbreviations, words, and phrases. This study reveals there are 37 pieces of jargons found in this study. The result of form classifications shows that 20 jargons belong to a word, 15 phrases, 1 abbreviation, and 1 acronym. Finally, the writer classified the jargon used by the barista into three sessions used for blending sessions, training sessions, and serving sessions for baristas to communicate in the work area.
