Abstract
This study is entitled Speech Disfluency On The Talkshow At “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” With Guest Star Billie Eilish and is aimed to analyze the speech disfluency produced by Jimmy Fallon and Billie Eilish in a talk show under an informal situation. The research method applied in this study is a qualitative approach to look for data and analyze the disfluency by watching the video recording. This study used Gleason & Ratner’s (1998) theory to analyze the data. The data in this study was taken from an official YouTube account namely “Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon” which is known as “Saturday Night Live” talk show. The result of this study showed that 28 data of Jimmy Fallon’s utterances and 44 data of Billie Eilish’s utterances. There are 72 speech disfluencies found as the result of the analysis. The speech disfluencies occur for some reasons based on the supported theory of Bortfeld et al. (2008) and Clark &Clark (1977). The reasons are; (1) do not know each other or there is no intimacy, (2) the topic and age differences. Moreover, Billie Eilish has a syndrome and all the reasons are caused by cognitive reasons, anxiety reasons, and social reasons. Keywords: informal situation, psycholinguistics, speech disfluency.
