Abstract

This thesis is entitled "Power Relations in Celeste Ng's Little Fires Everywhere". The purpose of this study is to reveal the power relations described in the novel "Little Fires Everywhere" (2017) by Celeste Ng and how the characters fight against that power. In completing the analysis, this study uses a qualitative method as part of the analysis presented in the form of text analysis. This study uses the theory of power (1980) by Michel Focault which is about power. This can be seen from the rich who use the power they have to control the weak. In order to end this power, the main character struggles to fight back by taking bold actions such as building social support and taking her baby with her own efforts. The results of this study reveal between those who have power and those who are powerless. Characters have the power and relationships to control weak people as subjects of power. Subjects of power are able to resist power by building social support. However people who are the subject of power can overcome power relations by means of resistance.
