Abstract

This study was aimed at analyzing the act of stigmatization experienced by the Muslim character in this drama. The object of this study is a drama script, entitled Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar. The writer used a theory of Erving Goffman (1963), entitled Stigma: Notes on the Management of Spoiled Identity. In this research process of this study, the writer used a qualitative method. The results should that Muslim characters get stigmatized by society who discriminate them based on their social identity such as religion, nationality, and race. Therefore, the Muslim character who stigmatized by society choose to change their social identity, through apostate way and lead bad opinion about Islam to hide their actual identity as a Muslim from society.
