Abstract

This study deals with the analysis of illocutionary acts used in the dialogues of Frozen II film. It aims to find out the types of Illocutionary acts, forms of speech act and functions of Illocutionary act that are found in Frozen II film script. This study was carried out using descriptive qualitative method by gathering and documenting utterances as the data from the film dialogues. The data were analyzed based on Yule’s Theory (1996). The analysis reveals that all the five types of illocutionary acts are found in the film script dialogues, those are Directives (210 data), Expressives (52 data), Representatives or Assertives (45 data), Commissives (25 data), and Declaratives (74 data). Regarding the form of speech, it was revealed that the characters used both direct (106 data) and indirect speech acts (104 data) and the most dominant is direct speech with interrogative function. Moreover, the analysis also found the functions of illocutionary acts which are Command, Asking, Suggest, Pray, Invite, Warn, Request, Guarantee, State, Conclude, Report, Assert, Nominate, Condole, Welcome, Appreciating, Thank, Apologize, Refuse, Promise, Offer.
