Abstract
The study was entitled Power Relation in Malorie Blackman’s Noughts and Crosse Novel. The study aimed to describe the portrayal of power relation in the novel Noughts and Crosses and to analyze the characters who have struggled in facing power relation in Nought and Crosses novel. The novel was published in 2017. This study used qualitative method in order to reveal the issue of the novel. The theory of power by Michael Foucault (1977) was applied. The result of the study found that power relation constructed power inequality in three areas as in economic, education, and politic. Callum’s family and other people who have white skin as defined as lower class in social status, that they are powerless in all aspects in the country. Besides, Sephy’s family and other people who have black skin as defined as upper class and have powerful. It is also found that power relation constructed power inequality which Noughts have to face many bad treatments such as discrimination, being marginalized, injustice, even torture. In this study, power relation between black and white people created power inequality among them in many aspects of social life in which black people have dominated over the white.
