Abstract

The study aimed to describe the portrayal of racial segregation in the novel Piecing Me Together and to analyze the impacts of racial segregation toward black people in Piecing Me Together novel. This study used qualitative method in analyzing the issue of the novel. The theory of racial segregation by Massey and Danton (1993) was applied. The result of the study showed the racial segregation depicted in the novel that black people depicted as lower class and white people were upper class. It is also found that racial segregation leaded racial inequality between black people and white people who affected discrimination and stereotype toward black people. They generally got mistreatment from the white people.
