Abstract

This research is entitled “Unit Shift Translation of Nouns Found in Jennifer Niven's All The Bright Places Indonesian Version”. In this research, the researcher concerns about translation unit shift of nouns occurred from English novel translated into Indonesian novel. The aims of this research were to find out and analyze the translation unit shift of nouns in the novel. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative method to portray the data findings. The theory used in this research is Catford (1965) theory which focused on unit shift. From the data analysis, it was found that there are 678 data were identified as unit shifts. It is no change shift. No change shift is divided into three categories. Those are Word into Word 76 data, Phrase into Phrase 268 data, Clause into Clause 106 data. Second, downward rank unit shift. Downward unit shift is divided into three categories. Those are Clause into Phrase 3 data, Clause into Word 1 data, Phrase into Word 126 data. The last, it is upward unit shift. Upward unit shift is divided into one categorie. Those are Word into Phrase 99 data.
