Abstract

The thesis aims to analyzed form of compound words and types of compound words. The writer used theory O’Grady and Dobrovolsky (1997), Delahunty and garvey (2010) to analyze compound words. The writer also used Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary by Hornby (2010) to explain the meaning of words, and compound words. The writer used qualitative methode in conducting this study to classify data using tables. The study results show that consist of 50 compound words which are found in the selected BBC breaking news articles. There are 40 single compounds formation, 6 hyphenated compounds formation, and 4 separated compounds formation. Furthermore, types of compound words, there are 20 endocentric compounds, 29 exocentric compounds, and 1 coordinative compound.
