Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find and to analyze the problem of personality traits of the main characters in the selected short stories book namely A Respectable Woman, The Story of and Hour, The Kiss, and The Storm by Kate Chopin (2014) using personality theory by Gordon Allport (1961). The research method used is a qualitative method where in this study the author analyzes more deeply the problems experienced by the main character then the data and results of this study are presented in the form of a narrative. The results of the analysis show that the main characters of the selected short stories by Kate Chopin (2014) there are two types of traits, namely cardinal traits and central traits, both types of traits have several types of traits, namely intelligent, shy, angry, optimistic, cunning, arrogant and others and the factors that influent the type of personality trait, namely job, social environment, stressful event life and culture.The se traits and factors describe each of the main characters as having various types of traits that distinguish them from other characters in the story. personality traits where his actions have an impact on his personality and the factors that cause his personality traits. .
