Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze gender equality issuesrepresented in a fiction novel. The object of this study is a novel entitled “Girl, Woman, Other” (2019) by Bernardine Evaristo. This study applies qualitative research method as the analysis presented in the form of narrative text. In order to guide this study, the writer uses the perspective of Judith Butler (2006) in gender performativity. The results of this study prove that women and men as humans have the same ability, can exchange types of work and social rolessuch as women doing masculine things and men doing feminine things. Mostly the female characters in this novel have a strong, ambitious, and independent characteristic so that they can fight and prove themselves to get an equal view in society, no longer being second-placed to men.
