Abstract

This study is entitled “Women’s Language Features Used by Kate Bishop in Hawkeye TV Series”. This study’s purposes are identifying women’s language used by Kate in her utterances and describing the function of women’s language features used by Kate Bishop in the Hawkeye TV series. With the purpose to answer those two study questions, the writer used theory of women language by Lakoff’s (1975) as the main theory. This study uses case study as the research methodology and applied qualitative method. The qualitative type of this research used the descriptive qualitative method to describe the data in sentences and tables. After following the method in analyzing the data, the result of this study found that Kate used nine out of ten features of women's language features. They consist of lexical hedges or filler, rising intonation on declaratives, empty adjectives, tag question, hypercorrect grammar, intensifiers, avoidance of strong swear words, superpolite form, emphatic stress. Furthermore, she used six functions of women’s language features found in Kate’s utterance. They consist of to express uncertainty, to soften an utterance, to start discussion, to get response, to emphasize utterance, and to express feelings.
