Abstract
This study aims to explain the semiotic elements contained in the KAI commuter line carriages and analyze the representational elements contained in the KAI commuter line carriages. To answer the formulation of the problem, this study uses the theory of Semiotics by Charles Sanders Peirce (1931). This theory has three elements; representamen, object, and interpretant known as triadic model theory. The relationship between these elements has the meaning and purpose of a sign being analyzed. The data source is taken from images of selected signs on the KAI commuter line carriages. The writer uses qualitative methods to analyze the data and explain the meaning of a sign. The result found that every sign on the KAI commuter line carriage uses three elements. The representamen element of the sign also has three different elements; there are qualisign, sisign, and legisign. Each of these elements is interrelated and has the same purpose.
