Abstract
This study is aimed to describe speech acts in Jimmy Kimmel Live YouTube channel. The objectives of this study are to figure out the functions of speech act and the dominant function of speech act used in Jimmy Kimmel Live YouTube channel. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method. The theory of Searle (1969) was used in analyzing the data. The data were taken from Jimmy Kimmel Live YouTube channel especially on the episode President Joe Biden Visit Jimmy Kimmel Live which aired on June 9, 2022. The writer found 29 speech acts. Based on its function, the writer found 13 representatives, 9 directives and 7 expressives. Meanwhile, commissive and declarative functions are not found in this video. In representative function, the writer found the data in the form of stating, predicting, reporting, confessing, announcing and speculating. In declarative function, the writer found the data in the form of inviting, questioning and commanding. While in expressive function, the writer found the data in the form of thanking, complementing, greeting, congratulating and apologizing.
