Abstract

This study aims to determine the translation method and the dominant method used by the author and to determine which translation method is the most dominant in President Joko Widodo's speech. The writer used a qualitative method to analyze and arrange the conclusion of the research in this study. The theory used in this study is the theory of Peter Newmark (1988) about the translation method. As a result, there are five methods of translation appear in this analysis, namely Free Translation, Faithful Translation, Literal Translation, Semantic Translation, and Communicative Translation. Furthermore, the results also show that the literal translation method is the most commonly used. It can be concluded that the five methods used by translators, the literal translation method is chosen to be used frequently because this method can be more easily understood in terms of language and meaning of delivery.
