Abstract
This study is aimed at finding the type of idiom and the strategies used along with their equivalence level in Soul movie Bahasa Indonesia subtitle. The theory used to analyze the data is based on the Idioms theory from Fernando (1998), translation strategies from Baker (1992) and Newmark (1998), and the equivalence theory from Nida (1964). This study applied the qualitative research method. Based on the analysis, it was found that literal idiom is the most common type found in the movie (124 data), the pure idiom (72 data), and semi-idiom (9 data). The strategies used to translate are paraphrase (135 data), SMSF (33 data), omission (19 data), literal (11 data), and SMDF (7 data). They impact the result of equivalence levels that produce formal equivalence (141 data), dynamic (44 data), no equivalence (20 data).
