Abstract

This study entitled “Women's Struggle Against Sexual Harassment in the Novel Rules for Being a Girl (2020) by Candace Bushnell and Katie Cotugno” is to analyze the issue of harassment against women depicted in the novel from Rules for Being a Girl by Candace Bushnell and Katie Cotugno (2020). Rules for Being a Girl (2020) features a novel that talks about the sexual harassment faced by women who make women struggle against sexual harassment. In addition, Rules for Being a Girl also contains about the struggle of women so that they are able to get justice and equal rights with men. This study uses qualitative methods to analyze the phenomenon in the form of women's struggle to verbal and nonverbal treatments that have been carried out by men, especially women. The object was analyzed through quotations by using the feminism Kate Millett’s theory (1970) in her book Sexual Politics and presented in the form of an essay. The results of the study show that sexual harassment occurs because of the power status between men and women so that men are considered superior, which results in women trying to fight sexual harassment to support the women's movement with the aim of getting justice.
