Abstract
This research focuses on identifying the impoliteness strategies and their functions in the Irresponsible stand-up comedy show from Netflix which performed by Kevin Hart. It also aims at analyzing Kevin Hart’s utterances that use impoliteness strategies proposed by Jonathan Culpeper (1996). This research uses qualitative research methods by presenting research results in the form of text and tables. This research indicates that Kevin Hart uses 52 instances of impoliteness strategies, which cover all five types of the strategy proposed by Culpeper: bald on record impoliteness, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, sarcasm or mock politeness, and withhold politeness. It also conveys that sarcasm or mock politeness is the most frequently used strategy. It occurs 21 times, or with a percentage of 40% of the whole data. Kevin Hart uses it as a device to entertain the audience. He mostly used polite satire on the listener`s face, which refers to negative connotations, to make the audience laugh and amuse them.
