Abstract

This study tittle is “Domestic Violence in It Ends With Us Novel by Colleen Hoover”. This study focuses on the depiction of domestic violence that occurs to the main character and how the main character shown self-determination to fight the domestic violence. This study used qualitative method which focus on analyzing data from the novel as an object of the study. This study used feminist approach by Bell Hooks (2000) and used self-determination theory by Ryan and Deci (2017). The results of this study indicate that domestic violence occurs to the main character in the form of sexual and physical violence. This violence occurs as a result of patriarchal culture in domestic relations. In addition, the analysis results also show that Lily was intrinsically and extrinsically motivated when she decided to escape domestic violence.
