Abstract
The study is entitled Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder in The Pretty One by Lucinda Rosenfeld." This study aims to analyze the symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) in the characters in the novel The Pretty One by Lucinda Rosenfeld (2013) used Theodore Millon's Personality theory (2004) and Sigmund Freud's (1894) psychoanalysis theory regarding defense mechanisms. This study used a qualitative research method because it analyzed narratively. After all, the main discussion is to explore the characters' lives in the novel. One of the characters in this novel experiences a personality disorder, namely OCPD. As a disease or disorder, OCPD can be detected by knowing the symptoms. This study found that the symptoms showed by the characters in this novel were rigidity, temperament, perfectionism, regularity, cleanliness, and selfishness. These symptoms became bad behavior and significantly affect social and personal life. This study also showed how characters deal with and be can control their OCPD problems by creating defense mechanisms such as reaction formation, sublimation, undoing, and isolation. This defense mechanism makes the characters better understand other people's feelings and lead a more relaxed life.
