Abstract

This study aims to analyze the illocutionary acts in The Emperor’s New Groove movie script. The utterances made by the characters in the series that contain implicit illocutionary acts are chosen as the subject of this study. In order to bring this study into purpose, this study used a theory from Austin (1955) and Searle (1976) to determine the types and functions of illocutionary acts.Qualitative descriptive is applied as the method to conduct this study. The result of this study showed there were 45 data that consisted of 18 assertive acts, 2 commissive acts, 11 directive acts, 14 expressive acts. Eventually, the writer concluded that assertive and expressive acts are the most used in the characters of The Emperor’s New Groove movie. Moreover, the result of this study also showed there were various illocutionary functions of the data, such as stating, claiming, suggesting, requesting, committing, justifying, terminating, clarifying, suggesting, requesting, confirming, accepting, disapprove, disbelief.
