Abstract

This research aims to determine the types and functions of code mixing used in the Backpacker International and Backpacker Dunia Facebook groups using Indonesian and English. The main data sources in this study are utterances uploaded from the Backpacker International and Backpacker Dunia Facebook groups in Apr - May 2022. To assist the writer in analysis, the writer uses the theory of Hoffman (1991) to find out types of code mixing and the theory of Gumperz (1982) to find out the function of code-mixing. The writer uses a qualitative approach to conduct this research. In this study, the writer found 3 types. There were 52 cases type of code-mixing. While the function the writer found 5 functions, there were 46 cases. The type and function of code-mixing in the Backpacker International and Backpacker Dunia groups are intra-sentential. Meanwhile, the function is the addressee's specification. Keywords: code-mixing, type, function, facebook
