Abstract
The research entitled “Self Acceptance issue in Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library” (2020) was conducted to analyze the issue of self-acceptance experienced by the main character and how the main character deals with it. The issue of self-acceptance is owned by the main character who has had many failures in her life, so she always finds it difficult to accept the bad things that happen in her life. In researching, the writer focuses on how the issue of self-acceptance that the main character has affects her outlook on life. To support this research, the writer applies self-actualization in the hierarchy of needs theory by Abraham Maslow (1954) which focuses on self-acceptance as a guide for analyzing the data found. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The analysis of this study shows that two important things can be concluded. First, there are several consequences for the main character's outlook on life which is influenced by the issue of self-acceptance possessed by the main character. Second, the way the main character achieves self-acceptance by living and accepting all things that come into her life. Based on the findings and analysis of the data that has been found, this research results that the issue of self-acceptance possessed by the main character has a negative influence on her, so the main character feels that everything that comes in her life is not as expected.
