Abstract
The study entitled “Lower Class Struggle Towards Capitalist Oppression Depicted in Crossed Novel” by Ally Condie is intended to analyze causes of Class Struggle of the main characters as the proletariat using Marxist Literary Criticism. Qualitative method is used to analyze the data in this study. Two theories are used in this study, those are Marx (1973) theories of class distinction and class struggle combined with Resnick and Wolf (1985) theory of human oppression. Those theories are used to obtain the relevant analysis between the theory and the statements of the problem. The result revealed that the class system is divided into Bourgeoisie (upper class) and Proletariat (lower class). Another result showed that the Bourgeoisie (upper class) oppressed the Proletariat (lower class) by ruling all aspects of the Proletariat’s life. Last result showed the lower class struggle represented through the characters in the novel. Keywords : Characters, Class Struggle, Marxism, Novel, Oppression, Social Class
