Abstract

This study is aimed to explain the semiotic process and uncover the massages of signs contained in selected coffee shop brand names. In the study entitled “A Semiotic Analysis on Selected Coffee Shop Brand Names” were used four coffee shop brand names Fifty Feet, Ruang Rumi, River Coffee, and Sepekan Coffee as the object of the study. This study used descriptive qualitative as a method in collecting the data because the data was collected in the form of tables and written language. The writer also used in-depth interview as a method of collecting the data to get a clear message. The owner of those coffee shops became the informant of the interview. In this study, Charles Sanders Peirce's Triadic semiotics theory is applied to analyze and identify the data, which focuses on Representamen, Object, and Interpretant. After analyzing the study, the result show that all the coffee shop brand names have different signs in each brand name and the signs are used to transfer information to the customers about the backgrounds, hopes, and goals of each coffee shop brand name. In the conclusion the selected coffee shop brand names is contained the signs consist of representamen, object, and interpretant.
